Professor Quassim Cassam
professor of Philosophy, University of Warwick

Quassim Cassam is professor of Philosophy at the University of Warwick, having previously taught at Oxford, Cambridge and UCL. He is the author of eight books on a wide range of subjects, including extremism, terrorism, conspiracy theories, vices of the mind and self-knowledge.

His latest book, published in October 2026, is How to Think About Terrorism: Reflections on Philosophy, History, and Politics, co-authored with Richard English. His next two books will be a second edition of Extremism: A Philosophical Analysis (originally published in 2021) and The New Extremism: How Extremism is Evolving and Why We Should be Worried.

At Warwick, he regularly teaches courses on the Philosophy of Terrorism and Counterterrorism and Philosophy for the Real World: Knowledge, Ignorance and Bullshit. He has also lectured recently on misuses of the concept of misinformation and the importance of intellectual courage in academia.
