Toby Marshall
film studies teacher; member, AOI Education Forum

Toby Marshall is a teacher of film studies and member of the AOI Education Forum. He has taught film studies and other subjects in Essex and East London for 20 years, working successfully with both GCSE resit, A-level and degree level students. He recommends that you watch, but don’t become, The Conformist. His writing and reading focuses on the relationship between politics, aesthetics, knowledge and education. Unlike Pierre Bourdieu, he is an advocate of symbolic violence in the classroom, but also believes that this pedagogy technique works best when it is administered with a sense of humanity.
