Rob Burley
writer and broadcast journalist; former editor of live political programmes at the BBC, 2018-21
Rob has been working in political and current affairs journalism for 30 years. He began his career at ITV before joining the BBC where his credits included assistant editor at BBC Breakfast, deputy editor of Newsnight and editor of the Andrew Marr Show before becoming editor of live political programmes in 2018.
After leaving the BBC in 2021, Rob launched Andrew Marr’s LBC show and spent two years working with Beth Rigby at Sky News. In 2023, his book Why Is This Lying Bastard Lying To Me? – part memoir, part history of the political interview – was published by Harper Collins. The book was adapted into the television series Brian & Maggie scripted by James Graham, directed by Stephen Frears and starring Steve Coogan and Harriet Walter, which aired on Channel Four in 2025.
Rob has written for The Times and the Sunday Times and made headlines with his 2026 investigation into trans at the BBC. He works for Times Radio and has a new book on political scandals – Well He Would, Wouldn’t He? – coming out in 2027.
