Paul Birch
writer and commentator; former Metropolitan Police officer

Paul Birch was a Metropolitan Police officer for 24 years. During that time, he served in a variety of roles, including emergency response, public order, intelligence gathering and counter-terrorism – both on the front line and in management.
The turning point for Paul came when he realised that the principles he had sworn to uphold were being eroded by the very organisation he was a part of. The oppressive work atmosphere, coupled with the institutional obsession with social-justice activism, left him feeling so disillusioned and disconnected that he decided to leave at the end of 2024.
Since leaving the police, Paul has dedicated himself to writing and commenting on UK policing, bringing an insider’s perspective to debates around law enforcement, accountability and public trust.
His work draws on first-hand operational experience as well as cultural trends affecting the service. He has contributed commentary and analysis to a range of outlets, including GB News, Telegraph, Daily Mail, Spiked, Daily Sceptic and The European Conservative, establishing himself as a distinctive voice on policing and security in the UK.
