Nimco Ali OBE
campaigner; author; co-founder, The Five Foundation

Nimco Ali OBE is one of the world’s leading campaigners for the rights of women and girls. A British-Somalilander activist, author and survivor of female genital mutilation, she is the co-founder and CEO of The Five Foundation, a global organisation working to end FGM and transform the lives of women and girls across Africa.

For more than two decades, Nimco has helped drive changes in law, policy and public attitudes, while challenging a development system that too often speaks for communities instead of investing in their leadership. She previously served as the UK Government’s Independent Adviser on Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls.

An outspoken advocate for African self-determination, Nimco argues that real development must move beyond dependency and paternalism—placing power, resources and economic opportunity directly into the hands of local people, particularly women and girls.
