Dr Kai Funkschmidt
research fellow, Institute for Denominational Studies

Dr Kai Funkschmidt is a research fellow specialising in Anglicanism and global ecumenism at the Institute for Denominational Studies in Bensheim, Germany. He previously worked at the Protestant Centre for Religious and Ideological Issues in Berlin and Churches Together in Britain and Ireland. His research interests include contemporary religious culture, esotericism, relations between churches in the Global North and South, and secular forms of religion. He has published extensively on religion and belief systems.

He grew up in Bonn and Paris, studied theology and Indology at universities in Göttingen, St Andrews, Hamburg and Bonn, and completed a doctorate on partnership in relations between churches in the Global North and South.
