Jenny Lindsay

Jenny Lindsay is a Scottish poet, essayist, and writer of non-fiction. Her debut non-fiction book Hounded: Women, Harms and the Gender Wars, was published in October 2024 by Polity Books to great acclaim, described by the Herald as “one of the most important political books ever to have been written about Scottish culture and politics”.

She is a weekly columnist for The Scotsman, and has written literary essays, poetry, and commentary for outlets as diverse as the Irish Pages, the Spectator, and The Dark Horse poetry journal. She was shortlisted for the Anne Brown essay prize in 2024, and won the inaugural John Byrne Award for Critical Thinking in 2020, for her film-poem The Imagined We. Her last poetry stage show, This Script, was a poetic memoir journeying through her relationship with feminism, exploring – with wit and good humour – some of the complex and controversial issues surrounding ‘the gender wars,’ which she then went on to chronicle in her 2020 essay ‘Anatomy of A Hounding: Fear and Factionalism in Scottish Poetry.’

She has been described as capable of bringing “a refreshing sense of joy to subject matter often discussed in a far more humourless space,” by critic Sally Stott, and Hounded has taken her to appearances internationally in Sydney, Australia, online in the States and Brazil, as well as nationally across the UK.
