AI: ‘amazing innovation’, ‘alarming inevitability’ or ‘armageddon imminent’?
Martha Tsigkari of Foster + Partners says that architecture will not survive merely by architects asserting their ‘value’.
So what do we mean by ‘values’ in an AI-inspired culture? Indeed, what do we even mean by human agency in an AI-dominated world? Already it is reshaping design, information and decision-making faster than was imagined just a few years ago. Some suggest that it is destabilising education and eroding critical thinking; others suggest that it will lead to a democratisation of knowledge and a more skilled workforce.
This session will explore AI’s positive potential – from creative augmentation to rapid iterations and efficiency gains – as well as the deskilling and disruptive risks it poses to the profession and the wider construction industry. It might also touch on the data-centre energy infrastructure required to keep the show on the road in the first place.
Expect candid discussions on authorship, creativity, liability, and the kind of architect (or non-architect) who will thrive or perish in an AI-augmented future.
