Dr Oliver Rudland

Oliver Rudland is an English opera composer and librettist known for his accessible style of modern composition. His operas, which include The Nightingale and the Rose, Pincher Martin and The Christmas Truce, have been staged internationally and well-reviewed in the nation press: ‘Rudland’s compositions are not simply appealing and original. What makes his music so powerful is the way he uses it, whether in his operas or his orchestral writing, to tell a story.’ Simon Heffer, Telegraph.

Oliver also teaches at Cambridge University, where he is founder and director of The Phoenix Music Society, which promotes the work of young emerging composers. Oliver recently completed a grand three-act community opera based on the story ‘A Kestrel for a Knave’ by Barry Hines, and he is currently working towards a full-scale production, details of which can be found on his Substack.
