The Earl Russell
Liberal Democrat Lords spokesperson (Energy and Climate Change)

The Earl Russell (John Francis Russell) is a current member of the House of Lords and has been Liberal Democrat Lords spokesperson for Energy and Climate Change since 2024. He was made a life peer in 2026. He is a member of the Lords Environment and Climate Change Select Committee.

Prior to entering the House of Lords, he served as a councillor on Lewisham Borough Council (2006–2010). He is a photographer by trade, specialising in political photography, event photography, and charity commissions and landscapes. In 2006, he was in-house photographer for Total Politics magazine.

John has also worked on the verification and monitoring of arms-control treaties and as a mediator.

John is the grandson of the philosopher Bertrand Russell.
