Neale Hanvey
former MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath

Neale was elected as member of parliament for the Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath Constituency in December 2019.
Initially elected as an independent MP, Neale briefly sat with the SNP Westminster group, but joined Alex Salmond’s ALBA Party acting as the Westminster Group Leader for the duration of his tenure in Westminster.
Neale was born in Belfast and at the age of seven his family moved to Scotland. Neale attended Glenrothes High School before pursuing a career in nursing. Neale worked primarily in cancer care latterly as divisional nurse director for Rare Cancer at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. Neale obtained his MSc with distinction at City University, London.
Neale has been a vocal opponent of the insinuation of gender ideology/queer theory into public life, first speaking out about the risk self-ID posed to women’s rights and child safeguarding in 2019. Regarded as a forthright and persistent parliamentarian, Neale spoke for over an hour against the motion during the first Conversion Practices (Prohibition) Bill in March 2024 where it failed to pass a closure motion.
Neale was MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath until the General Election of July 2024. He lives with his husband and two children in Fife.
