Annaïg Birdy
legal assistant; president and co-founder, Not All Gays

Annaïg is a women’s rights and gay rights campaigner, co-founder and President of Not All Gays, and works in the legal sector. A prominent voice on the human rights, ethical and legal implications of surrogacy, she has made submissions across multiple parliamentary jurisdictions on the weaponisation of gay rights arguments to advance surrogacy policy, spoken in Seanad Éireann and in House of Commons roundtables, and engaged policymakers internationally. She was invited by UN Special Rapporteur Reem Alsalem to address the United Nations on surrogacy, gay rights, and the impact of commodification on women and children.
Through Not All Gays, she led opposition to Ireland’s 2023 Hate Speech Bill, spoken on panels examining the Irish and UK Gender Recognition Acts, and drafted proposals for repeal and replacement of both. She oversaw an independent study on LGB youth on dating apps presented at EU level to advocate for safeguarding reforms, and has worked with chemsex support practitioners to promote harm reduction for gay and bisexual men. Drawing on her legal experience, she successfully intervened in the Sandie Peggie tribunal in support of Ms Peggie’s lesbian daughter, and is currently involved in intervening in a judicial review brought by Women’s Rights Network NI.
