Julia Williams

Julia Williams has been working in publishing for nearly 40 years both as an editor and a writer. Over the past 10 years, she has witnessed a growing tendency towards authoritarianism in the industry, particularly aimed at those whose views do not coincide with the ‘accepted’ narrative. This has been particularly noticeable in the trans debate, and thanks to the cancellation of people like Rachel Rooney and Gillian Philip, many authors and editors feel their free speech is being stifled.

Since Julia went freelance five years ago, she has felt more able to speak up for those that can’t, and two years ago helped set up SEEN in Publishing to push the case for gender-realist views in the industry and support those who feel their voices are being suppressed.
