Matilda Gosling

Matilda Gosling is an author, social scientist and independent researcher. Her latest book, The Infectious Mind: How Social Contagion Makes Us Ill, will be out in January with Head of Zeus (Bloomsbury). She is also the author of Teenagers: The Evidence Base and Evidence-Based Parenting (Swift Press).
Matilda’s research interests include social psychology, education, skills, child development and the analysis of belief systems. She has worked for governments, charities, foundations and private-sector organisations, and has overseen field research in more than 60 countries across Europe, Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia. Her recent work includes policy research on young people who are not in education, employment or training; research with psychotherapists and clinical psychologists on the likely impact of the proposed “conversion practices” legislation; and a paper for the British Journal of Psychiatry on nocebo mechanisms in the social transmission of anxiety.
Her Substack, The Social Mind, covers stories and science about how we shape each other’s thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Matilda has degrees from the University of Cambridge and the London School of Economics. She is a certified member of the Market Research Society, a member of the Social Research Association and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
