Vera Mota (Oporto, 1982) is an artist whose work is shown in performance, in sculpture and in drawing. Her work is identified with minimalist principles, and contains common traits that point to a conflict between a will to order and a fascination for error and accident.
Vera Mota grants particular attention to an economy of presence, effort and action, seeking to create new spaces for objects through the composition. By means of simple action she highlights the physical qualities of the materials she carefully chooses due to their specificities and the characteristics of which are determining in the production of her work.
Her work, which often questions the conflict-conditions that govern the relationships of verticality and horizontality, is always crossed through by a dimension of performance, albeit sometimes implicit and non-literal, whether due to the way that one senses the presence of a determined object or due to its suggest some possible use.
