Dr Rob Wortham

Rob Wortham teaches robotics and autonomous systems within the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Bath. His research focusses on robot transparency and the ethical considerations of building and deploying autonomous intelligent systems. Rob is a committee member for both the IEEE and BSi, working to produce new standards for the development and deployment of AI systems and robots.

Rob is also a Director of the Society for the Study of Artificial Intelligence and Simulation of Behaviour (AISB), the largest Artificial Intelligence society in the UK. Founded in 1964, the AISB has an international membership drawn from both academia and industry.

Prior to his academic career and interest in robotics, Rob had an entrepreneurial background, successfully founding and building a company that provides IT systems for the finance and travel industries. His forthcoming book, Transparency for Robots and Autonomous Intelligent Systems: fundamentals, technologies and applications, will be published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology in 2020.
