Frank Schimmelfennig is professor of European politics at ETH Zurich and director of the Center for Comparative and International Studies at ETH and the University of Zurich. He is also a Schuman fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute in Florence. His areas of research include regional integration theory, EU enlargement, and EU democratisation and democracy promotion. Current research projects focus on differentiated European integration, international parliaments and the dynamics of integration discourses in Europe. In addition, Frank has published on the euro crisis, the migration crisis and Brexit. His book The EU, NATO and the Integration of Europe. Rules and Rhetoric (Cambridge University Press) received the Best Book Award of the European Union Studies Association.
