Professor Dr Michael Wohlgemuth
economist; director, Open Europe Berlin

Director of the think tank Open Europe Berlin, professor of political economy at the private University Witten/Herdecke, affiliated fellow at the Walter Eucken Institute, Freiburg, and tutor at the post-graduate programme Social Market Economy of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

Michael has an MA in economics from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität, Freiburg, a PhD from Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, and a second PhD from the Private University of Witten/Herdecke.

Major fields of research in new institutional economics, economic theories of politics (public choice theory), theories of economic systems, evolutionary economics, social and legal philosophy and history of ideas. These have applications mainly concerning European governance and integration, institutions and processes of democratic governance, globalisation and inter-jurisdictional competition, public opinion formation and political leadership and political reform.

Wohlgemuth writes extensively on these subjects and comments in newspapers, magazines, university publications and blogs on economic issues as well as editing numerous books.
