Philippe Marlière is a professor of French and European Politics at University College London (UK). He was a research fellow at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) between 1989 and 1994. He holds a PhD degree in social and political studies from the European University Institute in Florence. He was awarded the 2007 Chair of Politics at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in recognition of his work on European social democracy. Philippe Marlière researches political ideas, party politics and the French Left. He is currently writing a book on the republican ideology in France.
