Mike Lawton is founder and CEO of Oxford Space Systems, an award-winning, early stage space technology business. Mike holds a degree in electronics and has spent his career building and leading teams that develop cutting edge, high technology. Oxford Space Systems is Mike’s third tech business, having previously started and exited two business. His last attempt to work for someone resulted in his boss describing working with Mike as “trying to control a caged tiger”. This confirming to Mike that he was destined for an entrepreneurial existence, hence the formation of venture capital backed OSS, a business which has quickly established a global reputation for innovation in the so-called ‘new space’ sector. Oxford Space Systems set two records recently for the space sector: the fastest development time of a new product from idea to successfully deployment on orbit in under 30 months with AstroTube™, the world’s longest retractable cubesat boom system.
