Michael Bittner was born 1980 in Görlitz (Saxony) in East Germany. He studied German literature and philosophy in Dresden. He lives now in Berlin as a freelance writer. As author and organiser, he is part of the literary groups ‘Sax Royal’ in Dresden, ‘Zentralkomitee Deluxe’ in Berlin and ‘Literatur Jetzt!’, the festival of contemporary literature in Dresden.
Michael is the author of several books, including Der Bürger macht sich Sorgen (The citizen is worried – 2018), Die Emanzipation des Fleisches und ihre Gegner (The emancipation of the flesh and its opponents – 2016) and Das Lachen im Hals (The laugh in the throat– 2016). He has written satires, columns, essays, reviews and stories for Sächsische Zeitung, taz, Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Guardian, Jungle World, Junge Welt, konkret and other publications.
