author, The Football Factory, The Liberal Politics Of Adolf Hitler, Slaughterhouse Prayer
John King is the author of nine novels – The Football Factory, Headhunters, England Away, Human Punk, White Trash, The Prison House, Skinheads, The Liberal Politics Of Adolf Hitler and Slaughterhouse Prayer. The Football Factory was turned into a high-profile film and his books have been widely translated abroad. He is currently working on a new novel, London Country.
The Big Issue has called John ‘perhaps the most passionately liberal writer in Britain today’, while the Guardian has referred to him as ‘an unusually serious novelist – serious both about the form itself, and the reasons for reading and writing’.
He has written short stories and non-fiction for a number of publications, with articles appearing in the likes of the New Statesman, Le Monde and La Repubblica. He edits the fiction fanzine Verbal, which promotes new writers and includes interviews with authors operating outside the mainstream.
John also co-owns the independent publisher London Books, where he edits the London Classics list, an imprint dedicated to forgotten/marginalised, largely working-class fiction from the capital. He also puts on Human Punk nights at the legendary 100 Club on Oxford Street. He lives in London.
