As Director for Europe at The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the business information arm of The Economist Group, Joan leads a team of 15 analysts, forecasting political and economic developments in 50 European countries. She specialises in the politics and economics of the UK, Greece, the Balkans and Eastern Europe; democracy; country risk; geopolitics; and post-communist transition.
Joan is the Editor of the EIU’s flagship annual Democracy Index, which is freely available on the EIU website. She is a frequent conference speaker and chair, and a regular media commentator on European affairs.
