Dr Rafael Schacter

Dr Rafael Schacter (b. London, 1980) is an anthropologist and curator, presently a teaching fellow in the Anthropology Department at University College London. He received his PhD in at UCL in 2011 and was a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow from 2014-2017. Currently exploring contemporary art practices in Manila, the Philippines, Schacter has also been undertaking research on graffiti and street-art for over ten years. He has authored two books, the award-winning World Atlas of Street Art and Graffiti (2013), published with Yale University Press, and Ornament and Order (2014), published with Routledge. He is currently completing his third book, From Street to Studio, slated for June 2018 with Lund Humphries. Schacter has also worked on numerous exhibitions, co-curating Street Art at the Tate Modern in 2008 as well as Mapping the City (2015) and Venturing Beyond (2016) at Somerset House, London. He is currently curating Silver Sehnsucht at the 50,000 square foot Silver Building in London’s Docklands.
