Dr Rachel Hammersley

Rachel Hammersley is an intellectual historian based at Newcastle University. She works on seventeenth and eighteenth-century political thought and has researched concepts such as republicanism, democracy and revolutions during this period as well as publishing on the exchange of ideas between Britain and France. Rachel is currently working on an intellectual biography of the seventeenth-century English political thinker James Harrington for Oxford University Press. Rachel is passionate about communicating the history of political ideas not just to academic audiences, but also to other groups, including children and young people and the wider public.
