Dr Janet Melville-Wiseman
academic lead for social work, co-chair of the Joint Universities Council Social Work Education Committee (Learning and Teaching)

Dr Janet Melville-Wiseman is the lead for social work education at Canterbury Christ Church University and also co-chair of the Joint Universities Council Social Work Education Committee (JUCSWEC – Learning and Teaching). JUCSWEC represents UK universities in consultations on national developments relating to social work such as the Children and Social Work Act (2017) and the development of a higher degree social work apprenticeship scheme.

Janet has worked in social work for 40 years and has a particular interest in relation risks and needs; tensions relating to spirituality, sexuality and social work; and gender and the abuse of trust in professional settings.
