Dr Emma El-Badawy

Emma is a political and social scientist with a specialism on the Middle East, Islamist extremism and Salafi-jihadi networks. She holds a PhD in Arab and Islamic studies and applies her research and expertise to global counter-extremism efforts. Previous research has been presented to the UK Home Office and Foreign Office, and her work on Salafi-jihadi ideology has been briefed to the Pentagon and the United Nations.
Emma’s passion and interest in Islam and the Middle East has largely been influenced by her mixed cultural and religious heritage. Emma is British-Egyptian and was born and lived in Saudi Arabia before moving permanently to the UK.
