Dr David Wood
chair, London Futurists; author, The Abolition of Ageing: the forthcoming radical extension of healthy human longevity

Dr David Wood is one of the pioneers of the smartphone industry. He spent 25 years designing, implementing, and avidly using smart mobile devices – including 10 years with PDA manufacturer Psion PLC, 10 years with smartphone operating system specialist Symbian Ltd (which he cofounded), and three years as Technology Planning Lead of Accenture Mobility. At different times, his executive responsibilities included software development, technical consulting, partnering and ecosystem management, and research and innovation.

He is now chair of London Futurists, in which capacity he has organised more than 200 public meetings on futurist and transhumanist topics in London over the past decade, and he is a director of Humanity+ (the World Transhumanist Association). He is also principal of the independent futurist consultancy and publisher Delta Wisdom, where he helps organisations and corporations anticipate the dramatic impact of rapidly changing technology on human individuals and communities. David has published several books, including Transcending Politics: a technoprogressive roadmap to a comprehensively better future (Delta Wisdom, 2018) and The Abolition of Ageing: the forthcoming radical extension of healthy human longevity (Delta Wisdom, 2016).

He has a degree in mathematics, he has undertaken doctoral research in the philosophy of science, and he has an honorary doctorate in science from the University of Westminster in recognition of his services to the smartphone industry. He is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies.
