student, history and politics, University of Oxford
Damian Lewens is currently a student at St Hilda’s, University of Oxford, reading history and politics in his first year. During his A Levels, Damian developed a keen interest in the family and the socialisation of children – especially in children’s socialisation into gender roles and in the reproduction of ideology. Damian has been actively involved in debating competitions for students, such as the Hertfordshire inter-school debating competition and the Academy of Ideas’ Debating Matters competition. Damian also helped co-found the Queens School Marxist Society, the first of its kind at the school.
Outside of history and politics, Damian’s passion is for surrealist art and theatre, especially that of Rene Magritte, Antonin Artaud and Frida Kahlo. His favourite pieces of theatre are ‘Mother Courage’ and ‘Caucasian Chalk Circle’, both by German Epic Theatre playwright Bertolt Brecht.
