curator, contemporary art, Manchester Art Gallery
Clare Gannaway is curator of contemporary art at Manchester Art Gallery. She previously worked at the Whitworth, Touchstones Rochdale and the digital arts agency Folly. Most recent projects at the gallery include The Imitation Game (2016), a group exhibition and publication exploring machines and the imitation of life, and solo exhibitions with artists Mehreen Murtaza and Hetain Patel, part of the New North and South programme (2017). She has just worked with Sonia Boyce on her first retrospective exhibition, including the new commission Six Acts (2018) and she is currently co-curating a group exhibition for summer 2019, The Crowd (working title), exploring themes around collective agency and activism, inspired by the bi-centenary of the Peterloo Massacre.
