A versatilist, Carla Aerts worked in the performing arts and studied in Japan before moving into the digital space, pioneering in the UK, Japan, Korea and Europe working with publishers, agencies, start-ups…
A serendipitous encounter with international educational publishing, kindled her curiosity in learning science, learning with technologies and contexts of education. This led her to strategy development, product design and increased EdTech involvement.
Carla was global digital director at Cambridge University Press Education and director of futures at the Institute of Education, UCL, where she ran EDUCATE – mentoring 250 London EdTech start-ups. She has worked with over 100 international EdTech start-ups. Carla speaks at conferences including FT Live (Brussels 2016), EdTechX, e-learning Africa, Les Rencontres d’Aix, Global Education & Skills Forum, Reimagine Education… and judges and organises EdTech & start-ups awards.
Carla runs the Tmrw Institute, a catalyst and thought leadership organisation focusing on learning in a digital age, convening and working with policy makers, educators, learning scientist, AI and EdTech specialists, academia, NGOs, foundations… She is a member of the AI expert network at WEF.
She has unbridled curiosity for how learning works and interest in the arts and culture. Carla is a ZINC and RSA fellow and is a governor in her local rural primary school.
