researcher and independent curator
Alexandra Balona is a researcher and independent curator based in Porto. Together with Sofia Lemos, she mobilizes PROSPECTIONS for Art, Education and Knowledge Production, a roving assembly for visual and performing arts research. Member of the Porto Municipal Council for Culture, she is a PhD candidate (ABD) at the European Graduate School & Lisbon Consortium, with a research on contemporary performing arts, supervised by Samuel Weber and Isabel Gil. She curated Migratory Images – Thinking Lab on Performative Arts, Rivoli TMP, and is invited lecturer at the postgraduate course in contemporary dance (ESMAE-ESE-RIVOLI, Porto). She participated in Critical Practice made in YU (2016-2017), publishes dance critic for the national periodical Público and is a member of Sinais de Cena magazine for theatre and performing arts studies’ editorial board. She has graduated in architecture (FAUP, 2001), post-graduated in contemporary art (UCP-Porto, 2008), attended the Paris Program in critical theory, and was visiting student at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and Paris VIII (Paris, 2010-2011). She publishes regularly on performing arts.
