Alex Smith founded North London Cares in 2011, South London Cares in 2014 and Manchester Cares in 2017. He was previously an aide to former Leader of the Opposition Ed Miliband and editor of one of the biggest political websites in the UK. The Cares Family have won various awards for their model connecting younger and older people in rapidly changing cities to reduce loneliness and bridge social, generational, cultural, digital and attitudinal divides. Alex was named as one of London’s 1,000 ‘most influential’ by the Evening Standard in 2015 and now speaks and writes widely on the theme of ‘disconnection in a connected age’.
