Gallery tours organised by the Academy of Ideas Arts and Society Forum seek to cast light on the relationship between art and society.  In this tour, led by artist and educator Dido Powell, paintings of figures ranging from the Tudors to contemporary Royals, from official groups to family groups and from high-status single portraits to the intimate portrait will be explored.  Examples will be chosen from across the collection that help understand themes of achievement, power, death and inheritance alongside the presentation of individual and group action and the impact of changing painting styles on the meanings of portraits.

Dido Powell, artist and educator, leads tour participants into a fresh look at why portraits were painted and how artists have addressed the demands of their commission.

The tour lasts about 90 minutes.
