Professor David Delpy

Professor David Delpy is the Chief Executive of EPSRC. He took up the appointment on 1 September 2007.

Professor Delpy has joined EPSRC from University College London, where he has been Vice-Provost for Research since 1999. He was Head of the Medical Physics and Bioengineering Department at UCL from 1992 to 1999.

He became Hamamatsu Professor of Medical Photonics in 1991, a Senior Lecturer at UCL in 1986, and a Principal Physicist in 1982. In 1976 he was appointed as a Senior Physicist at University College Hospital with a major responsibility for the physiological monitoring equipment in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Professor Delpy’s research interests have continued to lie in the field of physiological monitoring, and especially in the development of techniques for the non-invasive monitoring of tissue oxygenation and metabolism.
