Daniel Moylan

Daniel Moylan has been a Conservative Councillor, representing Queen’s Gate ward, on the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council since May 1990. In 2000 he was appointed Deputy Leader of the Council and Chairman of the Environmental Services Committee. With the introduction of new governance arrangements for the Council in July 2001, he became Cabinet Member for the Environment. In May 2003, he became Cabinet Member for Planning Policy and Transportation, a new portfolio that allowed him to continue to develop his interest in promoting outstanding streetscape design and the enhancement of the public realm.  Subsequently he added responsibility for Housing Policy to his portfolio.

In early 2009, Daniel Moylan was appointed Deputy Chairman of Transport for London by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. As Deputy Chairman of Transport for London, he helps to promote the Mayor’s policies and ensure good corporate governance at TfL. At the time of his appointment, he relinquished his Cabinet responsibilities for Transportation in the Royal Borough. He also resigned as Chairman of the London Councils Transport and Environment Committee, which he had chaired since May 2006.

Daniel Moylan is a Member of the London Waste and Recycling Board, a statutory body.

Before joining Kensington and Chelsea Council, Daniel Moylan had been a Conservative parliamentary candidate in Birmingham (1983) and President of the Oxford Union (1978).

After leaving university, Daniel Moylan joined H.M. Diplomatic Service and worked in South Africa. Later he became an investment banker, working mainly for NatWest. Twenty years ago he founded Egan Associates, a provider of specialised training services to leading financial institutions in the U.K. and overseas.

Daniel Moylan is interested in recapturing London’s reputation for outstanding, classical streetscape design; he wants to create barrier-free environments and to experiment with the interaction between design and behaviour in the public realm, to see if design can encourage decorous conduct and responsible autonomy amongst road users. His achievements were recognised by election as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 2008.

"What makes these sessions much more stimulating than most seminars is the sharp, often challenging contributions from the audience so that you have a real debate, not just a platform presentation."
