![]() | Joseph trained as an actor at Drama Centre, London. His career as an actor spanned over 25 years, starring in West End musicals, on television and in developing new writing. As a sound designer and composer, Joseph won the 1992 Carling London Fringe Award for his work on The Ballad of the Limehouse Rat by Tim Newton. Other composition work includes a Friday Play for BBC Radio 4, Full Blown and a documentary series for ITV, St Dunstans. In 2003, he was awarded a Personal Development Award from Arts Council England, to develop the theatrical uses of interactive composition software, Radial. This culminated in a 3-day workshop with a group of actors, a theatre director and a VJ exploring and documenting the possibilities for “live” soundtrack creation in theatre. From this came a practice-based research MA at the University of Brighton, culminating in an installation The Family Album in 2005 - a reflective narrative combining spoken word and binaural location recording. Joseph is about to continue his research into The Art of Noise and the Politics of Silence at SMARTLab UEL, assisted by funding from Nokia. In 2007, he set up a new project for phonography and environmental performance, field and established Field Radio on Radio Reverb, a monthly sound art show exploring the unheard and ignored sounds of Brighton & Hove. He is currently working as the sound designer for a new film about Charles Darwin for Curious commissioned by Arts Admin. In 2008, Joseph formed The Neo-Futurist Collective to research and develop ReAwakening of a City - a celebration of Urban Noise. The collective have been invited to create a walking performance in and around Wall St, NYC, for Conflux 2008. |
