![]() | John Wyatt is Professor of Ethics & Perinatology at University College London and Honorary Consultant Neonatologist at University College London Hospitals. He is a member of the UCL Centre for Philosophy, Justice and Health. The majority of his career has been spent working as an academic clinician in a major neonatal intensive care unit. He has led research into the mechanisms and prevention of brain damage before and after birth and has coordinated a large long-term study of the outcome of very premature babies. He has wide experience of counselling and supporting parents following a diagnosis of major abnormality both before and after birth. He has a long-standing interest in the philosophical and religious background to contemporary ethical debates about medical technology and the beginning of life. He is Chair of the Medical Study Group of the Christian Medical Fellowship, a member of the Ethics Committees of the Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and a board member of BioCentre. |
